Biodiversity

Birdhouses promote biodiversity in the avian world. There is a wonderful variety of birdlife in mountainous regions, lush green valleys, desert areas, waterways, and even arctic regions. Indeed, birds of all kinds are everywhere around the globe. Different types have different abilities, but collectively, all members of the bird-kingdom play a part in carrying out what mother nature requires of them.

What would our world be like without a diverse and colorful array of birds? Bluebirds are good examples, as their blue feathers are bright and beautiful to look at. They remind us of the beautiful biodiversity that's all around us and makes us appreciate them. Bluebird numbers declined greatly in the 1900s, but with the help of man-made structures such as bluebird houses (or bluebird boxes), bluebirds have made a substantial recovery. Assisting bluebirds with birdhouses will preserve bluebird numbers and keep the outdoors populated with different shapes, sizes and colors of various bird species. Many animals in the world depend on enclosed structures to survive, and anyone can help sustain the wonderful variety of birdlife by simply mounting a birdhouse.

Birds are in the air, in trees, and on the ground. They are easy to observe because they are everywhere. Thus, birds have become good indicators of our world's condition because they are responsive to environmental change and play important roles. A growing movement of institutions and private groups were launched in the early 20th Century to promote nature and to protect birds. It was not uncommon for women to lead the way in that era, and two notable figures were Harriet Hemenway and Minna B. Hall.

North America alone covers 16.3% of the total land area on earth. The USA by itself can be divided into six climate regions, excluding Alaska and Hawaii, and within our incredible landmass and various weather patterns, there are roughly 1000 species of birds. Choosing the right birdhouse will depend on your knowledge of the bird species you want to attract.
